Each team of students has its own treatment team consisting of a Therapist, a Team Teacher, and two Senior House Parents. The treatment team meets once every week to discuss important issues regarding each of the students. It is within these meetings that stage promotions and privileges are decided on, and consequences and interventions are implemented. The treatment team develops a service plan for each student, which is continually revisited and modified as the student’s needs change. Students and parents are also involved in the treatment planning process throughout, and can expect to communicate regularly with any or all members of their associated treatment team.


As a major asset in treatment planning and delivery, we have a thorough system for timely communication about students. This allows for improved continuity in all staff members’ approaches to particular students—across time, activities, roles and people.
Technology plays an integral part to the communication process at Summit Preparatory School. The school has a high quality, internal computer network designed specifically for the unique purposes of a therapeutic boarding school. Every staff member has email accounts they check regularly, and we maintain a student information database which includes a variety of up-to-date information about each student's progress within the program.
Communication with parents is also an integral part of the process here at Summit Preparatory School. Each week, parents are e-mailed academic progress reports for each student. These include the student's current grades along with a short narrative from each teacher. Each semester, parents are also allowed an opportunity to meet with their son's/daughter's teachers in person to discuss his/her progress in the classroom. Parents can also communicate directly with teachers during the semester via e-mail.
Students and their therapists maintain regular communication with parents as well. Each week, contact is made with parents by phone during the student's personal therapy session. During later stages of the program, students can also earn phone privileges to talk to their parents one evening a week. Initially the student can only do so while under the supervision of his/her house parent, but eventually he/she may be granted the privilege to call home without staff supervision.
