There are a number of different learning styles and strategies, and we strive to meet different needs in our student body.
If a student with an active IEP (Individual Education Plan) enrolls at SPS we incorporate the recommended accommodations, adaptations and/or modifications into the student’s Master Service Plan.
Some students arrive with documentation of evaluations that indicate symptoms of, or tendencies toward, various conditions that effect a student’s learning experience; such as ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) or AD/HD (Attention Deficit / Hyperactive Disorder). In these cases we implement any number of accommodations to enhance the student’s learning abilities.
Among the most frequent interventions we employ with a student needing some assistance are:
• Use of a daily planner for organization and assignments
• Extended time frames for larger/more complex projects
• Extended time for taking tests
• Modified test-taking procedure; (i.e. different test format, test readers)
• Extended time for reading, use of “sticky notes” to aid in comprehension.
Our desire is to meet every student, where they are, and help them move forward toward placement back in their High School at home, graduation and going to college, or whatever “next-step” they choose.
